What is Occupational Therapy?

Occupational therapy is a client-centered health profession that helps people of all ages overcome physical, cognitive, or emotional challenges to participate fully in the 'occupations' of daily life. Through assessment, intervention, and education, we help people develop, recover, or maintain the skills needed for daily living, ultimately improving quality of life and independence.

Who do we support?

At Open Horizons Occupational Therapy, we support children and adolescents to navigate the world in ways that feel safe, meaningful, and empowering for them. Every child experiences the world differently, and we work alongside families to understand each child's unique strengths, needs, and goals.

We provide services to:

  • Private clients (self-funded)

  • NDIS participants who are self-managed or plan-managed

Please note: Open Horizons is not a registered NDIS provider. We cannot provide services to participants whose funding is managed directly by the NDIA (Agency-managed participants).

We provide support across all of Australia, including rural and remote communities.

Our experience includes supporting children and adolescents with:

  • Neurodevelopmental differences, including autism, ADHD, PDA, and sensory processing differences

  • Physical and developmental disabilities, such as cerebral palsy, low muscle tone, hypermobility, and developmental delay

  • Complex and rare conditions, including genetic conditions, complex medical needs, and multiple disabilities

  • Emotional wellbeing and behavioural support needs, including anxiety, emotional regulation, and mental health challenges

If you or your child's needs aren't listed above, we encourage you to reach out. Open Horizons specialises in working with children and adolescents who may need a more individualised approach, and we are committed to finding supports that work for every child and family.
